Tip #1: TIPS for retaining information from novels

  1. Double stick a set of post-it tabs in the front jacket of the book—use tabs to mark memorable events. You can even color code if you’re type A :)

  2. Keep a pen or pencil with you and underline important moments and circle all names.

  3. Make notes in the borders of the book that sum up plot points.

  4. Keep a book journal. Make notes of main characters and backstories as well as any pertinent plot points

  5. Make note of films or tv shows that have similar tones or characters

  6. Find a friend (or book club!) to discuss the book with. The more you talk through it, the more you remember the story.

  7. Seek out interviews with the author. Their POV of writing the novel often helps reinforce the themes and characters in your mind.
